LASIK Surgery Safety
Not everyone is a candidate for LASIK surgery. While some patients may be borderline candidates for LASIK, they are often much better served by an alternative laser or non-laser procedure. (This determination is based on the patient's age, her specific prescription and other factors.) Dr. Cohen's expertise with different kinds of technologies enable him to offer his patients those procedures that are safest for them, whether it's LASIK or an alternative procedure such as implantable contact lens (ICL), clear lensectomy, Epi-LAIK, etc. In addition, Dr. Cohen is a highly conservative surgeon who will not hesitate to tell you if it is safer for you to defer surgery.
Below we have listed some results of a recent FDA study on patients who had LASIK:
- 100% of study participants could see well enough to legally drive a car (20/40 or better) without glasses or contact lenses.- 98% of Study participants achieved uncorrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better.
- 70% of those participants were 20/16 or better
